EXUVIA, a collaboration of Szandra Mészáros and Eszter Metzing, is an experiment in sensory and intermedial bodily experience. The title refers to the shed membrane, the outer layer released from the body, simultaneously evoking something left behind and something new that is in the process of taking shape.
The installation features biomorphic forms made of latex, complemented by elements crafted from borosilicate glass. The contrast between the soft, skin-like and the rigid, fragile materials creates a material tension that shifts the boundaries of perception.
The projection functions as an extension of the form’s internal movement. Textures appear alive, as if light flowing from within the body continuously reshapes and twists its surface. For the viewer the boundary between object and projected image becomes uncertain. The aim is to create a non-linear perception, where form exists in a state of constant transformation. Presence flows through different material and perceptual layers. Light, as a primary “fabric”, reinterprets matter, while the skin-like latex acts almost as a sensory organ: absorbing, reflecting, and responding.
The atmosphere of the space is shaped by a composition by Zságer Balázs. The visual projection responds to audio-based triggers, allowing sound and image to function together as a synchronized, almost breathing organism.
